new perodua Myvi

Aminar Rashid Salleh
Perodua’s new MD Aminar Rashid Salleh unveiled toUtusan Malaysia that we can expect a new Perodua Myvi somewhere around April 2011, with a Myvi SE to be launched a couple of months later around June 2011. He also revealed that a new 1.5 liter variant of the Myvi is in the works. This makes sense since they are already making the transverse-install front wheel drive 1.5 liter 3SZ-VE engine for the Alza, why not put it in the Myvi?
Apparently the new Myvi will have a new look. It’s actually about time for the Myvi to be refreshed, so Perodua is pretty much on schedule for a typical 5 year lifecycle with a facelift in the middle. The Myvi was launched in May 2005 and after 5 years, time for a replacement in the first half of 2011. If you remember, in mid-February we saw the Myvi’s Japanese cousin refreshed with a new look. Frankly, I don’t expect the Myvi to look 100% like that model as with each new rebadge product, Perodua has been moving away further and further from the JDM model’s exterior and interior.
I feel Toyota/Daihatsu has been slowly moving their JDM models to target specific niche markets with very tailor-made products. They have so many little cars based on the same platform over there in Japan, and from the marketing material of the new Passo/Boon, it’s quite obvious that the car is now targeted towards young ladies. In Malaysia, the Myvi is a unisex mass market car, so I’m expecting both exterior and interior styling to differ significantly in the details, while generally keeping the same shape.
Look at the related link below to find out more about the new Passo.

MAXIS profit increases

Malaysian mobile phone operator Maxis Bhd reported a 21 per cent increase in quarterly profit driven by higher revenue from data services, and warned of further pressure on tariffs and operating margins from cut-throat competition.
Income from data services is expected to be the key growth driver for Malaysia’s telecom operators this year as the country’s broadband usage remained low at 55 percent of the population at end-2010.
“The driver of revenue growth for the foreseeable future is from the increasing demand for wireless broadband, internet access and other non-voice services,” said Maxis, Malaysia’s second biggest mobile phone operator by market capitalisation.
Maxis posted a net profit of RM610 million for October-December, up from RM503 million a year earlier and slightly above the RM609 million average forecast of three analysts tracked by Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.

Net profit for the full year was 2.3 billion, matching the 2.3 billion ringgit consensus forecast of 25 analysts tracked by Thomson Reuters, led by higher income from data and wireless broadband services.
Regional telecommunication companies are facing a rapid decline in traditional fixed-line phone services and are having to spend more to win back customers.
Maxis’ mobile subscriptions rose by 14 per cent to 13.9 million in 2010, with prepaid and wireless broadband up by 1.4 million and 330,000 subscriptions respectively.
The company said it would pay a final dividend of eight sen per share.

Professionals and top execs set for huge increments

PETALING JAYA: Professionals from the information and communication technology (ICT) sector, accounting and finance industry, banking, logistics and sales have a lot to cheer about this year – their salaries are set to rise by as much as 30% compared with last year.

The Robert Walters Global Salary Survey 2011 for Malaysia has revealed that a wage increase of between 5% and 30% would sweep across these industries this year, partially influenced by inflation rates and market conditions.
The take-home salaries could, in fact, be much higher as these figures are exclusive of bonuses, other benefits and allowances.
Highly-qualified employees with five to 10 years’ experience are expected to benefit from this salary increase as firms in these industries are scrambling to hire and retain the best talents.
“The job market has gradually moved to become more employee-driven. Some firms are even willing to offer premiums to attract good local and foreign talent with niche skills,” Robert Walters country manager Sally Raj told The Star yesterday.
“Salary reviews can range from 5% to 15% depending on market conditions.
“The real jump in salary scale can be seen among sought-after talent – going from 10% to 30%,” she said.
For example, a 29-year-old top investment banker with some six years of working experience can earn up to RM180,000 per annum on his basic salary, she added.
Robert Walters, which has a presence in 20 countries, is among the world’s major professional recruitment consultancies.
It is to release the findings of the survey today.
According to the survey, the banking sector will see the biggest salary boom as the wage bracket for investment bankers with five to eight years of work experience increased from RM180,000 to RM288,000 per annum this year, compared with RM157,000 to RM240,000 last year.
Private equity bankers with the same number of years in work experience also saw their salaries upped from RM160,000 to RM264,000, compared with RM126,000 to RM240,000 last year.
In the ICT industry, software, voice and network engineers are expected to see up to a RM5,000 increase in their annual earnings and business application specialists, up to RM10,000 this year.
In the accounting and finance sector, cost controllers and auditors may stand to earn up to RM10,000 more while wages for account managers in charge of taxation and pricing may make some RM20,000 more.

Kuala Lumpur - among the world's top cities

KUALA LUMPUR: It comes as no surprise to City Hall that Euromonitor International has ranked Kuala Lumpur fourth among the world's top cities visited by tourists.
In an effort to promote the city further, City Hall will continue its efforts to attract locals to participate in events organised to promote tourism.
One such effort was the Formula One Malaysia Cultural Festival held at Bintang Walk during the Formula One 2010.
During the event, local dancers taught tourists how to do the joget lambak.

City Hall also hosted the cultural and food festivals where tourists were taught to cook local delicacies such as lemang and dodol, and how to weave the ketupat case. Tourists were also introduced to batik painting. .
Tourists could also enjoy the luxury of five-star dining and accommodation at the price of three-star hotels in the city compared to other popular destinations in the world.

Among the most popular attractions in the city are the KL Tower, KLCC, Sultan Abdul Samad Building, Jalan Masjid India, Petaling Street, Kampung Baru, Central Market, Petronas Philharmonic Hall and the Little India in Brickfields.
