basic grammar - articles

ARTICLES

[ A / AN / THE]
1. A - is used before a a word that begins with a consonant sound; (b, c, d, .....etc)
eg;
a  bowl/ cat/ door/ fan/ giraffe/ jar/ pond/ queen/ king/ vase/ window/ zebra.. etc.
2. A - is also used with words that are pronounced with a 'y' sound.
eq;
A unit/ uniform/ university/ etc.


3. An - is used before a word that begins with a vowel sound; (a/ e/ i/ o/ u)
eg.
an ant/ eagle/ egg/ eel/ iron/ onion/ orange/ owl/ umbrella/...etc.
4. An - is also used with words beginning with silent 'h'
eg.
An hour/ honour/  honest person/...etc.


5. 'A' AND 'AN' are not used before:
- plural nouns.
- uncountable nouns
- names of road, places, towns, states and most countries.
- names of games and meals.


6. 'THE' is used for a particular person or thing.
eg;
The man with a blue car is my neighbour.
7. 'THE' is used with things that are the only one of its kind.
eg;
The earth is round.
8. 'THE' is used when we speak of the same thing again.
eg;
He bought a bicycle yesterday. The bicycle was expensive.
I found a cat in the drain. The cat was wet.

This Campus is located in Bandar Sungai Long, a 200-acre self-contained residential township. This Campus is equipped with a broad range of facilities not only for teaching and learning purposes but also for recreational activities. PERAK CAMPUS

Perak Campus, which sits on a 1300-acre piece of land donated by the Perak State Government, is located in the growing township of Bandar Barat Kampar in Perak. Strategically located off the North-South highway, Perak Campus is 190 km or a two-hour drive from Kuala Lumpur. Flanked by picturesque mountains, dotted with scenic lakes and located within a growing township, Perak Campus offers a conducive, environment-friendly and community-fostering setting that enhances and fulfils the learning, teaching, research, and social needs of students and staff.

Kolej Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Selangor - KUIS


Kolej Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Selangor atau lebih dikenali sebagai KUIS merupakan sebuah Institusi Pengajian Tinggi Islam milik sepenuhnya Majlis Agama Islam Selangor (MAIS) yang ditubuhkan di bawah akta IPTS 1996. 
Penubuhannya secara rasmi pada 15 Februari 1995 membuktikan komitmen kerajaan negeri dalam membangunkan agenda pendidikan dan kecemerlangan ilmu. Sehingga kini KUIS masih mengekalkan objektif awal penubuhannya untuk melahirkan lebih ramai tenaga profesional Islam yang mampu memimpin masyarakat serta membangun dan mengembangkan ilmu pengetahuan islam. Selain itu, KUIS juga berperanan menyediakan alternatif bagi lepasan sekolah untuk melanjutkan pengajian ke peringkat yang lebih tinggi.

Selaras dengan itu, KUIS menawarkan bidang pengajian merentasi disiplin antaranya termasuk pengajian Islam, 
pengajian perniagaan, perbankan Islam, bahasa dan komunikasi, ICT dan multimedia, kejururawatan dan pendidikan. 
KUIS juga sentiasa komited dalam memastikan setiap program yang ditawarkan adalah berdaya saing, kompetitif dan berkualiti serta memenuhi perakuan (MQA) Agensi Kelayakan Malaysia.

Dalam usaha menjadi sebuah universiti elit dan dinamik, KUIS terus berusaha mengekalkan persijilan MS ISO 9001:
2008 bagi skop pengajian dan pembelajaran (P&P). Selainitu, pengiktirafan status Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) telah berjaya membuktikan keupayaan KUIS menyediakan khidmat pendidikan tinggi di bidang teknologi maklumat sekaligus menyumbang kepada hasrat kerajaan dalam melahirkan pekerja-pekerja bermaklumat (k-workers) untuk kejayaan MSC.
